Li Xiaofeng trained as a muralist but turned to sculpture to explore a new concept and expression of Chinese landscapes. His choice of material is unexpected; instead of marble, wood or even glass, he prefers buying shards of broken porcelain recovered from ancient archeological digs, some dating from the Ming Dynasty, and then shaping and polishing them, drilling holes into each corner and linking them together with silver wire to create ’rearranged landscapes’. It is fitting that these poetic pieces, which have been perhaps best described as ‘post-orientalism’, usually take the form of clothing, including traditional Chinese dresses and jackets as well as neckties and military uniforms. They are ultimately ‘wearable’ although certainly promise to be as heavy as any armour and would require a strong retinue of dressers to don and doff.

Hildur&Konrad Design are a newly opened design and interior studio based in Oslo. H&K main focus are production of small scale furniture and accessories as well as interior projects.

The Norwegian pavilion really stood out of the crowd by the organic structure and the purity of materials. We had dinner in the lovely restaurant run by the Furseth group. First class Norwegian Salma salmon and other fishes were served on Figgjo porcelain. It looked perfect, the quality of the food and serving concept brought a huge interest for Norwegian food and Figgjo porcelain. Hong Kong TV and BBC were filming the whole concept!

The only one built in wood, the theme are "Norway. Powered by nature". The exhibition are the largest in modern time with the theme "Better City, Better Life". I am so proud, finally the bricks I made for Mathilde are ready to play. The wooden, square bricks are old help tools for Figgjos production. Luckily I got my hands on them before they got thrown away. The bricks are perfectly worn after years and years in the production where they have been sirculated around for a decades. My plans are to make a lot of them with different decoration. And It is no problem since I have a big stock of them...! It is easy to do it yourself: you need bricks, any decorated paper (wrapping paper/news paper/napkins/decor paper) and decoupage. Good luck!

One year ago I bought Mathildes first Play dough and she loved it. About a month ago I had to buy som more since the first dough almost dried up. I can really recommend this activity to all parents with kids. It is funny, Its creative and challenging to make different kinds of objects, our whole family gets seriously involved when the Play dough gets on the table! Last weekend we visited Sola beach, the weather was lovey but yet cold. We had our mini picknic with chips, apples, crackers and lemonade! Graphic design giants Pentagram have built an impressive, European-accent fueled exploration of determing one's typesetting based on personality...a typography typology, if you will. The journey takes four well-chosen this-or-that questions to ascribe users one of sixteen character sets. I was given Archer Hairline, from Hoefler and Frere-Jones. It's "a modern typeface with a straightforward appearance, but one that has tiny outbreaks of elegance and tiny dots of emotion."

And, I guess it mostly makes sense. Archer Hairline is a geometric slab-serif, as are Rockwell and Courier, the two main typefaces used here on ManMade. And according to H&F-J, it's "sweet but not saccharine, earnest but not grave, Archer is designed to hit just the right notes of forthrightness, credibility, and charm." I can live with that. :)

Spectacular place!

Birgitta Ralston and Alexandre Bau established Transplant in Norway, after 10 years as designers in Paris, they wished to create an open design competence arena for industries within the fields of design and architecture.

To think different and find new ideas, they believe that both research/art and technological/trend knowledge are important elements in the process. This is the departure point for on-mesure workshops and consulting for companies and also in their independant Transplant program.

The first two years 2007-09 Transplant was animated by a contemporary art/design program. Visitors and users where met by constantly changing interior spaces and exhibitions. From 2010 a design research program is filling Transplant with new activity.

Five simple mantras has been guiding the content development in Transplant.

We are really happy with the stuff that we made! Trine made a side table with integrated light and a spaceship made of lego. I made a lamp out of a Ikea stool, two legs of an old table and a original lampshade from the 70´s. I can really recommend this beautiful place in Dale, where they grow ideas... We rented a nice apartment by the sea for the weekend and had a wonderful time looking out on the fjord and mountains. I am definetively going back, soon I hope!

We are still working on this exciting project by crushing and sawing! It is wonderful to see how cool the products looks like when they are splitted into several pieces. Above you can see the porcelain moulded together with concrete. I want some of theese lovely concrete blocks in my driveway!!! Will still keep you updated on this exciting project.
